Melanie Jayne Lynskey
Melanie Jayne Lynskey was born on May
16, 1977, in New Zealand. She is known for her distinctive, soft-spoken and
headstrong roles. She is primarily involved in films that are independent. Her
nominations include: an New Zealand Film Award. A Hollywood Film Award.
Sundance Special Jury Award. Gotham Award. Golden Nymph Award. Critics' Choice
Award. Screen Actors Guild Award nominations. Lynskey was a young murderess,
who made her film debut in Peter Jackson's Heavenly Creatures (1994). After
moving to the United States in 1994, Lynskey forged a career performing
supporting roles in a variety of big-budget and smaller-scale movies, such as
Ever After (1998) and Detroit Rock City and But I'm a Cherleader (both 1999),
Coyote Ugly (2000), Abandon and Sweet Home Alabama (1902), Shattered Glass
(2003) and Flags of Our Fathers (2006). Lynskey was nominated for the Gotham
Award as Breakthrough Performer and was awarded acclaim by critics for her
character as the depressed divorcee in Hello I Must be Going (2012). It was a
pivotal point in her career. Later, she was a lead in Happy Christmas, We'll
Never Have Paris Goodbye to All That (all 2014), The Intervention, Rainbow
Time, Little Boxes (all 2016) I'm Not Feeling at home in This World Anymore,
And Then I Go (both 2017), Sadie (2018) and Lady of the Manor (2021) have made
her an established figure within the American independent film scene. Outside
of the film industry, Lynskey achieved fame with her performance as Rose on the
CBS sitcom Two and a Half Men (2003-2015). From 2015 to the year 2016, she
played Michelle Pierson on the HBO series Togetherness, for which she received
a nomination for the 2015 Critics' Choice Television Award for Best Supporting
Actress. She provided the voices of Beatrice for Cartoon Network's Over the
Garden Wall (2014) and Megan for Disney XD's Future-Worm! (2016-2018). She was
a part of Molly Strand's first season on Hulu (2018) as well as Rosemary
Thomson was her role in Mrs. America (2020).
