Patricia Velásquez
Creativity goes beyond the canvas,
photographs or films, and into the media. It also acts as the catalyst to
philanthropy, charity, or activism. Patricia Velasquez is an award-winning
actress and a history-making supermodel. Also, she is a fervent donor. Author
activist, author, and a loving mom. Regardless, she makes major advancements
through drawing on her intuition and deliberately paving her own pathway.
"I view my career like the length of a staircase," she said. "I
have taken every step. It was amazing to accomplish this, because there was
perseverance. I never stopped moving, simply sat down. The metaphor directly
resembles a formative experience. The woman was born in Venezuela and was
raised in France or Mexico. After only a few years she decided to relocate to
Venezuela. In South America her parents worked in the field of education. They
moved their family into an apartment building with no water and inoperable
elevators. Patricia carried 15 flights of stairs up with heavy buckets in order
to supply water to the area. She tried to assist her family as much as possible
despite her studies in engineering as well as pursuing a dance education. She
was scouted to model in Milan and her climb to the top of fashion hinged on a
promise to her family and friends. She recounts, "When they asked me about
going to Italy to model, I responded"If you can pay 30 bucks a month home
to Venezuela the cost will be worth it since that will pay for the entire cost
of water for the building's construction'." Patricia's success represented
the beginning of a new era in fashion as she drew media attention to South
America for the first time. Her biggest break came upon becoming "the
first model Karl Lagerfeld ever photographed" and later, she walked in
shows, appear in editorial spreads, and advertisements for front pages of
Chanel, Dolce & Gabbana, Fendi, Chloe, Cover Girl, and Victoria's
Secret just to mention several. Her appearances in Oprah's Supermodel of the
World contest as well as Ford Models’ "Supermodel of the World"
contest was a huge hit across the globe. The covers of her book also appeared
for Vogue, Bazaar, Marie Claire and numerous other publications.
